Satin Balls

Recipe

Satin Balls

Satin Balls are a go to recipe for owners of underweight working dogs, emaciated dogs coming into rescues, high energy dogs, dogs that need to be enticed to eat, etc.  Satin Balls were designed to put weight on a dog very quickly and are loaded with calories. While fast weight gain in addition to fast weight loss, is not healthy for the body, some dogs need a calorie boost to push them towards regaining healthy weight.

We use this recipe with some of our very active training dogs. They run a lot while playing, get additional exercise during training sessions, and then hit a growth spurt making it challenging to keep weight on them. Satin Balls, coupled with feeding them a quality kibble, allows us to get them to and keep them at a healthy weight. Please keep in mind that if your dog has any allergies, or other medical conditions, you should seek the advice of a licensed veterinarian prior to implementing Satin Balls into your dog’s diet. There are a ton of recipes, half recipes, and alternate recipes found in a quick Google search, however this is the one we use and our dogs love it! As with any raw meat, please take precautions when handling.

Ingredients:    All ingredients are uncooked and "Satin Balls" are served raw.

Satin Balls Full Recipe

1 large box Total cereal (about 12 cups cereal)

1 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 15 cups oats)

1 15oz jar wheat germ

10 packages Knox unflavored gelatin

Pinch of salt

1 1/4 cup flax seed oil

1 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses

10 raw eggs

10 lbs. cheap hamburger (high fat %)

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl in the order of the listed ingredients above. In this order it is not necessary to wash your hands in between ingredients.

The mixture can be formed into balls as the name suggests or into patties which may be easier to stack in the freezer. Each serving size depends on each individual dog; typically for medium to large dogs, normal meatball size is used. Place the balls/patties into bags and freeze them. Since they are served raw, thaw them individually when you are ready to serve them.

Your dog will LOVE these, and weight gain should be seen relatively quickly.  Ingredients may be cut in half for a smaller recipe.
